Join our healthcare team as an Optometrist and make a meaningful impact on patient vision and eye health. We're seeking a dedicated optometric professional to deliver comprehensive primary eye care services in a collaborative, patient-centered environment. This role offers the opportunity to provide preventative care, diagnose and treat acute and chronic eye conditions, and serve as a trusted resource for our diverse patient population.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive outpatient optometric primary care services, including preventative care, health maintenance, acute and chronic disease management, and clinical consultation
  • Conduct thorough clinical evaluations, diagnose eye conditions, and develop appropriate treatment plans
  • Adhere to evidence-based disease management protocols and clinical pathways to optimize patient outcomes
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the EHR system and ensure proper coding that reflects the care provided
  • Implement and comply with the Center's Exposure Control Plan and universal precautions in all clinical settings
  • Coordinate patient referrals for specialized services and social support in collaboration with care team members
  • Review and sign off on incoming diagnostic reports (labs, imaging, etc.) and follow up per established guidelines
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical collaboratives, and government-approved healthcare programs
  • Mentor and precept students as assigned, contributing to the development of future optometric professionals
  • Represent the Center's values and mission through community outreach and off-site health programs
  • Collaborate with clinical staff and leadership to develop best practices and expand approaches to patient care
  • Participate in peer review and quality assurance activities to maintain clinical excellence
  • Attend mandatory center, corporate, and professional development meetings
  • Maintain current knowledge of coding, billing requirements, and reimbursement arrangements (Medicare, Medicaid, insurance plans)
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to medical support staff
  • Make recommendations regarding clinical supplies, instruments, equipment maintenance, and upgrades
  • Report any patient care or liability concerns to leadership immediately
  • Complete all required training courses and maintain current certifications

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) from an accredited university
  • Current Texas Optometry License
  • Current DEA registration
  • Current BLS/CPR certification
  • All other certificates required by the State of Texas
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and manual dexterity
  • Ability to quickly identify clinical problems and determine effective treatments
  • Compassionate, empathetic approach to patient care
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-based practice environment
  • Professional demeanor and respect for patient dignity and privacy
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, electronic health records systems (Athena Health or similar), and online resources
  • Logical, methodical work approach with strong record-keeping skills
  • Commitment to staying current with scientific and technological developments in optometry

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of equivalent optometric experience
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English
  • Experience in a community health center or primary care setting
  • Experience with diverse patient populations
