Tool, Die & Mold Repair Technician
Our client, a leading plastic injection molding manufacturer serving diverse industries just outside of Chicago, IL, is seeking a skilled Tool, Die & Mold Repair Technician to maintain and repair precision tooling and molds used in production operations.
The Tool, Die & Mold Repair Technician is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and modifying production molds, tools, and fixtures to ensure they meet quality and performance standards. The role requires precision craftsmanship, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work with close tolerances in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production molds and tooling.
Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble molds and dies for proper function.
Modify molds, jigs, and fixtures to meet updated customer or production requirements.
Diagnose mold issues and determine effective corrective actions.
Operate precision machinery such as mills, lathes, surface grinders, and EDM equipment.
Grind complex forms to exact tolerances using blueprints and technical drawings.
Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance and repair activities.
Ensure compliance with safety policies, maintain a clean workspace, and promote continuous improvement initiatives.
High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced technical training or apprenticeship preferred.
Minimum 5 years of toolroom or mold maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of tooling, mold function, and precision repair techniques.
Proficiency with manual and CNC shop equipment including grinders, lathes, mills, and EDMs.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and detailed technical documents.
Excellent problem-solving, organization, and communication skills.
Experience with hot runner systems and mold calibration a plus.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools for documentation and reporting.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, and climbing during shift.
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and push/pull heavy tooling components.
Manual dexterity for precise tool handling and repair work.
Occasional exposure to oil, fumes, and moderate noise typical of manufacturing environments.
Must wear required PPE at all times.
