Miscellaneous Metals, Inc. is a fast-paced steel fabricator and installer serving commercial construction projects across the Washington, D.C. metro area. We specialize in custom stairs, railings, and structural metal systems.

We are seeking a hands-on Construction Accountant to perform core accounting functions, support accurate financial records, assist with month-end and year-end close, and support construction job-cost accounting. We move quickly, solve problems, and take pride in the steel structures we help build across the Washington, D.C. metro area.

The right person for this role will be comfortable in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and able to work with different personalities across the office, shop, and field. We are looking for someone who takes pride in accurate accounting work and understands that strong financial records support the success of the entire business.

  • Prepare accounting schedules, reports, and supporting documentation for leadership and outside CPA review.
  • Work directly with the outside CPA on year-end close, tax preparation, and accounting-related questions.
  • Analyze job-cost activity, WIP-related information, accounting discrepancies, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Exercise independent judgment to identify errors, recommend correcting entries, and suggest internal controls or process improvements.
  • Coordinate with AP, AR, and Payroll staff to ensure accounting transactions and related records are accurate and timely.
  • Assist with tax payments, payroll liabilities, benefit-related accounting entries, and other recurring accounting records.
  • Maintain organized accounting documentation and supporting backup.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company financial, payroll, employee, vendor, and customer information.
  • Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, including hands-on general ledger, journal entry, and reconciliation work.

  • Experience using Viewpoint Vista.
  • Experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Ability to review accounting records, identify discrepancies, and recommend corrections.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment when evaluating accounting issues and recommending solutions.
  • Strong understanding of accounting controls, documentation, and process improvement.
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to work with accounting reports.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with leadership, AP, AR, Payroll, and outside advisors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting WIP schedules, job-cost reporting, or cost-code review.
  • Experience working directly with an outside CPA on year-end close and tax documentation.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.

Working Conditions

  • 100% on-site office position in Walkersville, Maryland.
  • Standard office environment with occasional exposure to minor noise from the adjacent fabrication shop.
  • Regular computer use, accounting software use, spreadsheet review, and document review.
  • Occasional overtime may be required during month-end, quarter-end, year-end, or tax-related deadlines.
