Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Manage job cost accounting for multiple construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs
Set up and maintain project budgets, cost codes, and cost tracking systems
Prepare and process monthly owner billings, including AIA billing, progress billing, retainage, and lien waivers
Track and reconcile change orders, ensuring proper cost and revenue recognition
Review and process subcontractor pay applications and vendor invoices
Support payroll processing, including certified payroll when required (prevailing wage / Davis-Bacon)
Maintain WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules and assist with revenue recognition under percentage-of-completion methods
Reconcile general ledger accounts and assist with month-end and year-end close
Monitor cash flow, AR/AP aging, and assist with collections as needed
Ensure compliance with contract terms, insurance requirements, and bonding documentation
Support audits, bonding reviews, and financial reporting to leadership
Collaborate with project managers to identify cost overruns, forecast trends, and improve profitability
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent construction accounting experience)
3+ years of accounting experience within the construction industry (GC, civil, or subcontractor)
Strong understanding of job cost accounting and construction financial workflows
Experience with AIA billing, WIP schedules, and change order tracking
Proficiency in construction accounting software such as Sage 300/100, Viewpoint, Procore Financials, CMiC, or similar
Strong Excel skills and experience with financial reporting
Knowledge of construction contracts, retainage, and lien laws
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Experience with prevailing wage / certified payroll
CPA or progress toward CPA a plus
Experience supporting bonded projects and working with sureties
Familiarity with percentage-of-completion accounting
Experience working in multi-entity or multi-state construction environments
