Job Description

Chambers, recently placed at #29 New York City’s Top 100 Restaurants by the New York Times and a 2026 James Beard Award Finalist, opened in June of 2022, was added to the Michelin Guide that very year and was also the recipient of a glowing NY Times Review.

Our menu from Chef Jon Karis (formerly of Gramercy Tavern) showcases the best of seasonal New York City cooking, with a frequently changing menu (alongside a few staples) that is as meticulously prepared as it is
craveable. Our exploratory beverage collection of soulful wines, spirits and fermented beverages built by Beverage Director and world-renowned sommelier Pascaline Lepeltier (formerly of Racines NY and Rouge Tomate) is both world-class and approachable. We are deeply committed to creating an atmosphere that puts the comfort and pleasure of the diner’s experience at the forefront, with service led by General Manager Jared David (formerly of Racines NY and Babbo).

Barback/bussers work closely with all members of the restaurant’s team to ensure that dinner service is operating at peak performance. Barback/bussers are responsible for assisting servers and bartenders serve our guests in a friendly and efficient manner. This role will play an integral part in ensuring our bartenders are well prepared for service, assist servers in keeping the floor clean, stocked and ensure the guests enjoy a clean, safe environment with timely service. To succeed in this role, you will need to have a positive attitude and ability to work well with other FOH team members, and kitchen staff. At all times, barback/bussers are expected to be attentive to our guests' needs and staff needs. Exuding a warm, welcoming sense of hospitality while delivering service that is confident, knowledgeable, approachable, and efficient.

Responsibilities
  • Complete all assigned side work and maintain the bar by clearing, marking, and resetting as necessary
  • If needed, replenishing utensils, refilling water glasses, being alert to patron spills or other special needs, restock as needed in collaboration with the bartenders
  • Contribute to the loading and polishing of glassware from the machine
  • Execute barista tasks during service hours - dial coffee daily, restock, prepare herbals, teas and coffees during service
  • Prepare garnishes, refill ice wells, change beer kegs and restock napkins and straws
  • Clean up the spills, remove the glassware and organize the counter
  • Keep the bar and floor areas neat and clean
  • Complete bar prep and batching as necessary
  • Fulfill both assigned and running side work throughout the shift.
  • Contribute to teamwork each shift by assisting other team members with delivering food, drinks, and/or desserts to guests 
  • Coordinate with managers, kitchen staff and security personnel to ensure efficient service to customers.
  • Handle emergency situations, like cleaning up broken glasses 
  • Engage management for any escalated guest situations
  • Maintain all workspaces and common spaces in a clean, neat, organized manner and in accordance with DOH standards
  • Additional service and/or operational tasks as determined by managers
  • Protect establishment and guests by adhering to sanitation, safety, and alcohol beverage control policies.
  • Adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently.
  • Polish B&B and share plates for the floor 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • 2+ years as a barback in a restaurant with a comparable service style and/or cuisine in New York City.
  • Must have the ability to read, speak, understand, follow written directions, and verbal instructions in English
  • Ability to execute steps of service in adherence with company policy
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A proven track record of dependability 

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands for this position are seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, sitting, standing, for 5 to 10 hours, bending, and moving intermittently during working hours.
